Joshua Sklarin is a Partner at Hill Wallack LLP and a member of the Firm’s Trusts and Estates and Real Estate practice groups. He focuses his practice on sophisticated estate planning for individuals, families, and closely held businesses, estate and trust administration, and fiduciary and inheritance disputes. He also maintains an active Real Estate practice, allowing him to counsel clients holistically where real estate ownership and wealth planning intersect.
Joshua advises clients on comprehensive estate planning strategies, including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, and tax-efficient wealth transfer planning. He regularly counsels clients on fiduciary structuring, multigenerational planning, and asset protection considerations. Joshua also represents fiduciaries, beneficiaries, and other interested parties in contested matters such as will contests and fiduciary disputes, and guides executors and trustees through all phases of estate and trust administration.
In addition to his trusts and estates practice, Joshua represents clients in residential and commercial real estate transactions and related litigation. His experience includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating purchase and sale agreements, leases, financing documents, inspection-related issues, and attorney-review addenda, as well as managing due diligence, title review, and regulatory compliance. This combined background enables him to address complex legal, financial, and practical considerations in real estate-heavy estates.
Joshua brings a broad litigation and transactional background to his practice. He began his legal career representing New Jersey boards of education in labor relations and negotiations, employment disputes, construction and land use matters, student discipline issues, and policy consulting. In that role, he successfully negotiated labor and employment contracts against some of New Jersey’s largest labor unions, including the New Jersey Education Association. As his practice expanded, Joshua represented automobile manufacturers, business owners, private individuals, and Fortune 100 insurance companies in matters spanning real estate, estate planning, business disputes, and complex litigation.
Joshua has appeared before the state courts of New Jersey and New York, federal courts nationwide, arbitration panels, the Office of Administrative Law, and the Public Employment Relations Commission. His experience in both adversarial and transactional settings informs a pragmatic, strategic approach to matters that are often legally complex and deeply personal.
Prior to joining Hill Wallack, Joshua worked at several regional firms throughout New Jersey, the last of which as partner in charge of the Trusts and Estates and Real Estate departments. Following graduation from Seton Hall University School of Law, Joshua served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Superior Court of New Jersey.
Joshua is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York, U.S. District Court, District Court of New Jersey, and the Southern District of New York. He received his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law. Joshua received his undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont.
Outside of his practice, Joshua enjoys going on adventures with his wife, three children, and three dogs, often involving the New Jersey coastline, ice hockey, and music.
