Legislative Update: Uniform Deployed Parents Custody and Visitation Act Passes in PA House and Senate

Custody matters are always difficult, being emotional and always affecting the children. Children tend to get caught in the middle of disputes between parents, which does not always work in the child’s best interests.

Military personnel often suffer more in custody actions, especially when one parent is deployed. Now the legislators address that issue:

Legislative Update: Uniform Deployed Parents Custody and Visitation Act Passes in PA House and Senate – October 15, 2025

The PBA Department of Legislative Affairs is pleased to share that House Bill 414, the Uniform Deployed Parents Custody and Visitation Act, has passed the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the Pennsylvania Senate.

The bill, sponsored by Representative Craig Williams, protects the child custody and visitation rights of servicemembers by preventing any permanent custody changes while on deployment for longer than 30 days. HB 414 passed with unanimous support and now awaits Governor Shapiro's signature.
