Kenneth E. Meiser is a partner in the Princeton, N.J. office of Hill Wallack LLP. He is a member of
the Land Use Division, which encompasses the Land Use Litigation and Land Use & Environmental Applications Practice Groups.
He concentrates his practice in land use litigation, approvals and redevelopment.
Known for his role in several precedent-setting legal decisions, Mr. Meiser has significant experience in both
the land development application and permitting process, and in litigation of land use matters.
Representative Matters
- Represented plaintiffs in the successful
Mount Laurel landmark litigation challenging exclusionary zoning. He was also instrumental in drafting the Senate version of the New Jersey Fair Housing Act, the legislative response to
Mount Laurel
- Appeared as counsel in numerous proceedings challenging the constitutionality of zoning ordinances before the New Jersey Supreme Court
• Authority on COAH procedures and redevelopment law
- Handled numerous planning board and zoning board applications ranging from minor subdivisions to a 2,500 unit residential development
- He represented the New Jersey Builders Association in a major redevelopment case challenging the constitutionality of New Jersey’s redevelopment statute before the New Jersey Supreme Court,
Gallenthin Realty Development v. Paulsboro. The decision imposed severe limitations upon a municipality’s ability to use condemnation powers to effectuate redevelopment. Since,
Gallenthin was decided, he has been involved in numerous redevelopment matters representing private developers and objectors concerning “areas in need of redevelopment”, the prerequisite for redevelopment condemnation.
Leadership
- Mr. Meiser has been included for a number of years on the New Jersey "Best Lawyers" and "Super Lawyer" lists
- A frequent public speaker, Mr. Meiser has made presentations to the Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the National Business Institute and numerous other organizations in New Jersey on land use and redevelopment issues
- He has taught courses in land use regulation as an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers Law School
- He has published several articles on redevelopment law in New Jersey
Mr. Meiser is admitted to practice before the State Court of New Jersey and the U.S. Court of Appeals. He earned his law degree
cum laude from Harvard Law School and is a graduate of Xavier University.
